<p>The inscription is one of a large number of extracts from a sacrificial calendar inscribed or recodified in the late Classical or early Hellenistic period and disseminated at various local sanctuaries, presumably as punctual reminders and short regulations in and of themselves (for the early beginning of such excerpts, cf. here <ref target="CGRN_62">CGRN 62</ref> and <ref target="CGRN_63">CGRN 63</ref>, both from Lindos). The excerpts perhaps come from the general sacrificial calendar of the unified city of Rhodes or perhaps equally probably from that of Kamiros itself. See e.g. <ref target="CGRN_110">CGRN 110</ref> for further examples from Kamiros; e.g. <ref target="CGRN_115">CGRN 115</ref> for others from Lindos. <p>The excerpt here concerns rites for Apollo Pedageitnyos, who shares his epithet with the name of the month. One occasion is missing in the fragmentary lines below, but the first one occurs on the 7th of the month Pedageitnyos: the sacred day for Apollo. In the reconstruction of the Rhodian calendar refined by Badoud (for a different view, see Iversen), Pedageitnyos is identified as the sixth month (ca. January/February), but the order of the winter months in the Rhodian calendar remains particularly uncertain. The sacrificial animal offered to the god was probably an adult male pig (a sheep, [οἶ]ν, might also be possible, though the lacuna is perhaps not large enough). It is possible that the festival envisaged here is the Pedageitnia. The origins of the word Pedageitnyos suggest that it was a celebration involving emigration (θυσίαν ἐπώνυμον ... τοῦ μετοικισμοῦ, Plu. <title>Mor.</title> 2.601b) and the structure of a civic, and/or of a sub-civic community (in the reference to 'neighbours'). For the probably corresponding festival called the Metageitnia in Ionian cities (in Athens taking place on the 7th of the month Metageitnion), cf. <ref target="CGRN_84">CGRN 84</ref>, lines 89-90 (<foreign>genos</foreign> of the Salaminioi in Attica), and <ref target="CGRN_201">CGRN 201</ref> (Miletos), lines 20-21.</p>
