Text

οἶνον
μὴ προσφέρεν·
Μοιρέων
καὶ Ζανὸς
5Μοιρηγέτεω.

Translation

Do not bring forward wine. (The altar is) of the Moirai and Zeus Moiragetes.

Traduction

Interdiction d’apporter du vin. (Autel) des Moires et de Zeus Moiragète.

Commentary

This apparently informal regulation is of a type that is often found at the altar or cult-site. The small prohibition concerns the bringing of wine for libations. On Kos, by contrast, the Moirai (along with Heracles and other gods) appear to receive such a libation, cf. CGRN 96, lines 32-36 (restored). The verb προσφέρεν is perhaps analogous to the verb προσέρδεν found in a small prohibition from Thasos, no doubt in the same sense of "bring forward to sacrifice", cf. CGRN 17 (though that text is concerned with restrictions on sacrificial animals). On this text and Zeus Moiragetes, see Graf, p. 24-25.
